I’m thrilled to announce that Puppet has acquired Distelli, a privately held continuous delivery automation software company based in Seattle, WA. Over the last 12 years, Puppet has built a powerful brand and successful business based on automation, and it has become synonymous with DevOps. Now, with Distelli, we will provide a comprehensive solution for automating the entire software delivery lifecycle.

As software delivery within the enterprise continues to evolve, DevOps has become one of the most widespread movements focused on optimizing the delivery of such software. A significant part of this movement is about transforming software delivery into a cross-functional activity where development and operations work collaboratively on delivering against application requirements—and, share in the burden of operating the application.

Our customers consistently tell us that their DevOps toolchain is too complex. It’s too hard to get started on the DevOps journey, it takes too long, and they are spending too much time integrating tools to make it all work. We also know from our industry-leading State of DevOps Report that once enterprises adopt DevOps practices, they see real results: faster and more frequent deployments, lower failure rates, and happier people.

The starting point for the vast majority of these organizations is deployment automation and infrastructure automation. With Puppet Enterprise, Distelli and the new capabilities we’re unveiling at PuppetConf 2017, we’re aiming to simplify the toolchain with integrated offerings, make it easier to get started, and faster to accelerate DevOps success. In doing so, we will make DevOps a reality for a broader set of customers.

No one builds infrastructure for sake of infrastructure, they build it for running applications. And in order to be successful and fast in rolling out new applications, companies need automation throughout their entire software production system. Unfortunately, up to now that automation happens in isolated pockets. Our mission at Puppet is to enable our customers to deliver better software faster. Distelli’s continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) technology is so core to our strategy that we decided to make this investment and accelerate our ability to respond to our customers’ needs.

This deal combines Puppet’s trusted brand, DevOps leadership, global go-to-market capabilities, partnerships and enterprise infrastructure automation capabilities with Distelli’s modern application delivery automation capabilities. The result: a best-of-breed delivery platform built for the enterprise, that integrates with a wide variety of tools and targets every infrastructure platform, both on-premises and in the cloud, meeting our customers where they are and giving them options to avoid vendor lock-in. Needless to say, Distelli will have the backing of our global resources, our team and our brand to build upon the success they’ve already achieved and to ensure that our customers continue to thrive.

The power of uniting Puppet and Distelli goes well beyond technology. We’re like-minded companies with a passion for solving customer problems and a shared vision to deliver better software faster. I’ve been incredibly impressed with the Distelli team. They have built an amazing product.

Don’t just take my word for it. Check out Distelli CEO Rahul Singh’s blog about today’s announcement. To learn more about our shared vision, join us at PuppetConf on 10-12 October in San Francisco.

Please join me in welcoming Distelli to the Puppet family!
