Puppet + Cumulus Linux
The beauty of Puppet is the simple yet powerful foundation it provides for automating the management of the entire data center. It’s also a great platform for our Puppet Supported partners to deliver integrated solutions to their customers.
Meet Cumulus Networks, the cool kids on the networking block, who are doing just that. Cumulus Networks offers Cumulus Linux, the first full-featured Linux OS for data center networking. Cumulus Linux is a completely open platform, giving customers choice and flexibility in the hardware and software they use to manage their networks.
With Cumulus Linux, you can use Puppet Enterprise to manage your network switches, providing a seamless experience between network and computing.
Can I see Cumulus Linux and Puppet in action?
Yes! The good people at Cumulus Networks created Cumulus Workbench, a free demo lab that allows anyone to test features and play with integrations like Puppet. You can view a series of demos that use Puppet to configure the switches. To give you a taste of what it’s like, you can reboot the switches, pick up a new installer image, run Puppet and have your switches reinstalled and configured in 10 to 15 minutes. It’s almost effortless!
Because Cumulus Networks is big on open standards, they’ve provided the code for all their demos on Github, so anyone can refer to them as examples for running and configuring Cumulus Linux.
The Cumulus Workbench solution center contains several integrations you can demo, with more to come.
- Configuration of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF)
- Zero touch provisioning (ZTP)
- Monitoring tools (sFlow, nmon, Ganglia)
We’re thrilled to see companies like Cumulus Networks building great solutions that help drive automation across the entire data center with Puppet Enterprise.
