Introducing the 2018 State of DevOps survey and our new research focus
Editor's note: The 2018 State of DevOps Report is now available.
We’re happy to announce the 7th annual State of DevOps survey is now open!
Thanks to the 27,000 of you who’ve taken the State of DevOps survey over the last six years, we’ve built an incredible body of research that has helped many of you progress in your DevOps journey.
This year, we’ll be exploring new territory, diving deeper into the DevOps journey, and we invite you to join us.
One of the things that’s been most gratifying about producing the State of DevOps Report has been hearing stories from you about how you’ve used this data to demonstrate the value of DevOps and get buy-in to kick off a DevOps initiative within your organization. Many of you have also asked us what’s next and how you can move beyond islands of automation to enterprise-wide DevOps success. Our goal this year is to map the prescriptive next steps an organization needs to take to be successful with DevOps, what the roadblocks are along the way, and how to shortcut them.
If you’ve taken the survey in past years, you’ll likely notice something else: it’s shorter. The 2018 State of DevOps survey should only take about 15 minutes to complete.
Given our new research focus this year, we will be working with new co-authors who have deep insight into enterprise DevOps adoption, either through leading DevOps transformations or advising enterprises on best practices. This year, I’m excited to be working with:
- Andi Mann, the chief technology advocate at Splunk and co-author of Visible Ops – Private Cloud and and The Innovative CIO.
- Michael Stahnke, a director of engineering at Puppet and the author of Pro OpenSSH.
- Alanna Brown, the director of product marketing at Puppet and creator of the first State of DevOps Report in 2013.
We’d also like to take a minute to thank Gene Kim, Jez Humble and Nicole Forsgren of DevOps Research and Assessment (DORA) for their partnership over the years.
And last but not least, we have new prizes! This year, 25 people who take the State of DevOps survey will win an Amazon gift card for $100, $200 or $500. See the contest rules for all the details.
Be part of the 2018 State of DevOps Report
We invite you to take the 2018 State of DevOps survey today. Your experience will undoubtedly help others find their path to successfully adopting DevOps practices and all the benefits that brings.
Feel free to share it with your colleagues and friends, too. We’d love to hear from a wide mix of people, from developers to SREs, QA engineers and IT leaders — and from people who just started learning about DevOps to people who have been doing it for a decade.
The survey closes on Friday 6 July, and you can expect the 2018 State of DevOps Report in September.
