We’re building a model train

The Puppet-at-scale project is a cross-team collaboration where we're building a HO-scale model train that runs Bolt tasks and plans. Yep, you read that right-- we’re going to apply remote automation to a model train set.

Making Bolt fun to try

It gives the Bolt team a means to emulate how a user might want to orchestrate tasks and plans to remote targets. It's an effort to drive Bolt adoption and bring Puppet together.

The big vision

The big vision

The team wants to create a Bolt tutorial or learning module where users can see their tasks and plans affect a real train at Puppet HQ. We’re inspiring Puppet teams to get together to rejuvenate how we solve hard problems collaboratively.

Teaching bolt in new ways

Teaching bolt in new ways

This is an opportunity to create a module that encourages folks to download Bolt and to empower Puppet teachers to teach in different ways.

Want to try Bolt?

You don’t need a model train to get started. Learn more about Bolt today and try it out (it’s open source and free to use).

Choose your operating system, follow the install link and run the listed Bolt command via your command line interface. For additional help, or if you’re looking for an operating system or version not listed here, please check out the docs.

  • It’s all about the journey

We’re approaching our destination and have made plenty of discoveries, failures, and recoveries along the way. More importantly, we’re solving hard problems together. Learning more about one another … and breaking things, of course. Getting to the destination is nice, but it sure has been a journey so far.
