Graduate Technical Presales Engineer

at Puppet, Inc. Sydney, Australia

Hi, I’m David Alexander, Senior Manager of Sales Engineering at Puppet,

I’m looking for a Graduate Technical Presales Engineer to join our team to help us solve technical problems for businesses and organisations that want to eliminate soul-crushing manual IT work, and do it in a secure and repeatable way. We want someone who is curious, open to learning, enjoys talking with - and more importantly, listening to - people, and has studied information technology in one form or another - might be a pure IT degree, or IT as part of a business, sciences or arts degree. You won’t need prior experience - we’re looking for a real graduate here, and we want to help you grow into both the role, and your career.

This is a full-time role, and we are happy to take candidates who are graduating in early 2022, or who have graduated in previous years.

Puppet is a hybrid-remote company. What does that mean? You can work from wherever suits you - our office in Sydney city, or from your home - and we make sure that you can do that, with the right equipment, software, and support. We’re rated in the top ten businesses in the world for remote workers; this isn’t just lip service. Our other perks include full private health cover for you, your partner, and any dependents (whatever that happens to look like); five weeks’ paid annual leave; mobile phone stipend; wellbeing allowances; volunteering days through the year; and extended caregiver leave if calamity strikes you or those close to you. We’re serious about being a truly flexible and great place to work.

We have a meaningful approach to diversity, equity and inclusion. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and celebrate and encourage diversity in our business. Whoever you are, whatever your background, we want you to apply.

Meaningful work you’ll contribute

  • Learn and demonstrate technical capabilities of the Puppet solution portfolio, and the use of adjacent technologies with Puppet (including but not limited to cloud computing, virtualisation, application development, data engineering, IT operations management, and IT service management)
  • Evangelise the Puppet solution portfolio to prospects, customers, and partners in an effort to drive uptake of the portfolio
  • Maintain a high level of continuous development of their technical and sales skillsets with the training opportunities provided within Puppet
  • Support tier 1 and key account opportunities as directed by senior Sales Engineers, where appropriate
  • Provide technical sales support to tier 2 customer opportunities, working with Account Managers, Sales Development Representatives, and other Sales Engineers as appropriate

You are…

  • Curious. You ask why, and want to understand how things - software, systems, processes - work. You think about how those things could work better.
  • Team-minded and inclusive. You want to work with others to get to the right answer. You speak up if you have thoughts on something, and help out when you can.
  • Empathetic. You care about why things happen, and what motivates people to take actions in given situations.
  • An open-minded learner. You learn from mistakes and move forward. You are eager to absorb as much learning as you can. You’re okay with not always knowing the answer and can say so, but you’re keen to research to try and find an answer.
  • Accountable and resilient. You are accountable for your actions; you own and learn from your mistakes, and help others learn from theirs.

Valuable experiences and skills you’ll bring to Puppet

  • You have studied (at diploma/degree level or above) information technology, or an information technology field of study within a related course (for example, business, science, or arts).
  • This is an entry-level job, and we don’t require previous experience. We will teach you the skills; apart from the study above, all we need from you is the ability and desire to learn.

We are hiring at various experience levels and we’re particularly interested in having a diverse team with a broad set of skills and viewpoints. If this seems like your dream job, but you’re not sure if you qualify, apply anyway!
