Senior Cloud Operations Manager

at Puppet, Inc. Remote North America

Hi, I’m Nathan Brubaker, Sr. Manager of IT at Puppet,

I’m seeking a Senior Cloud Operations Manager to join our team and help us improve our cloud computing practices. This role will be a key member of the Technology and Security organization, responsible for optimizing and protecting Puppet’s cloud-based assets.

Puppet leverages SaaS and IaaS partners in most facets of its development, operations, back-end, and customer success functions. As we grow, we are looking to expand our use of public cloud resources with an emphasis on security and optimization.

The ideal Senior Cloud Operations Manager has hands-on technical experience setting up cloud environments according to industry best practices, implementing cloud security frameworks and management tools, and is comfortable partnering with teams across the company to improve cloud utilization and governance.

At Puppet, we value innovation and seek new ideas, as we look for new opportunities to better serve our people and our customers. We work collectively, allowing us to accomplish far more as a team than could be accomplished individually.

You will:

  • Work with internal stakeholders to understand their requirements and current use models, and recommend improvements related to optimization, cost management, and security.
  • Lead the administration of Puppet’s cloud computing practices, setting policy and implementing controls to govern cloud computing configurations, usage and expenses.
  • Partner with Puppet’s Security Operations team to identify, investigate, and respond to threats, vulnerabilities, incidents and anomalies.
  • Develop and evangelize our enterprise cloud computing platform security strategy and serve as technical mentor and highest internal escalation point for Cloud security.
  • Work across Puppet’s teams to mitigate risk associated with existing and proposed cloud instances and tools.

You are:

  • Passionate. You care about security, and love solving user problems.
  • A team player. You’re collaborative and enjoy helping others to learn and increase their skills and understanding of complex concepts. At the same time, you’re able to be…
  • Self-Directed. You enjoy working independently. You’ll receive guidance when you need it, but we’re looking for someone who will thrive with the freedom to explore our infrastructure, propose solutions and drive executions and results.
  • Resourceful. you’re adept at designing policies and solutions that allow our employees to do their best work, securely, leveraging automation whenever possible.

Valuable skills and experience you’ll bring to Puppet:

  • 5+ years of engineering experience, 3+ years of working with public cloud providers, managing cloud infrastructure and security policies (e.g. AWS Service Control Policies, Security Hub and Command Center).
  • 2+ years of experience with automation provisioning scripting (e.g. Terraform.)
  • Broad technical experience and up-to-date industry knowledge around cloud platform management and cloud security frameworks.
  • Expertise in security monitoring of cloud environments and implementation of security event management solutions.
  • Experience in project and program delivery, with responsibility of scope management.
  • Experience creating and maintaining tools and scripts to manage deployments and configurations.

Bonus, but not required (shout about it in your application if you have experience):

  • Experience in containerizing existing workflows
  • Experience with Kubernetes

We are hiring at various experience levels and we’re particularly interested in having a diverse team with a broad set of skills and viewpoints. If this seems like your dream job, but you’re not sure if you qualify, apply anyway!

*Covid Vaccination Requirement for US employees

In the U.S., Puppet employees are required to have proof of vaccination for COVID-19. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines “fully vaccinated” as two weeks after the second dose for Pfizer and Moderna, and two weeks after the single dose of Johnson & Johnson. Puppet will require proof of vaccination and consider requests for exemption from this requirement during the post-offer pre-employment phase as a reasonable accommodation for medical reasons or sincerely held religious beliefs where the accommodation would not cause Puppet undue hardship.
