Director, Technical Program Management

Hi, I’m Pintu Sethi, Sr. Director of Strategy and Transformation at Puppet,

I’m looking for a Director in Technical Program Management to be a key part of the Strategy and Transformational organization and help us deliver a great suite of automation products to enterprise customers. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a team of program managers, cross-functional programs through their technical and business lifecycle, and setting program management/agile/lean governance. We’re working through complex challenges and ushering in a new era of pervasive automation—and you’ll be instrumental in coordinating and collaborating on the next phase of Puppet products.

At Puppet, as a Director, Technical Program Management you will partner with senior leaders throughout the company to build a strong Program Management practice at Puppet while building strategic roadmaps, transforming them into execution plans and delivering against business objectives. You are a leader with a growth mindset who has built and grown program teams using Agile and Lean governance models. 

Our team works across all levels of Puppet and our customer’s organizations; engaging with executive stakeholders and with highly technical developers and practitioners. You’ll do your best work at Puppet with incredibly talented and passionate people from all walks of life!

Meaningful work you’ll contribute  

  • Lead, mentor, and strengthen a team of program managers
  • Strategically partner closely w/ Engineering leaders, product managers, and design leads to ensure cross department alignment
  • Establish processes to improve the way we lead programs
  • Drive long term planning outlook and communication 
  • Navigate through ambiguity and ramp up quickly to create order out of chaos
  • Ability to build and maintain program budgets with appropriate resource allocation
  • Able to build trusted partnerships, communicate, and influence all levels in the organization
  • Collaborate and drive consistency of practice, provide insight & measure portfolio execution health
  • Acts as a champion for Agile and Lean principles across the organization
  • Employs effective change management practices to roll out cross-departmental processes
  • Engages with the Product Management team to derive efficient best practices and evolve our processes at Puppet; effectively leads the team through developing and delivering incremental business value based on these processes
  • Develops and implements efficient plans to accomplish team goals, working with other teams in case of dependencies or cross-team feature development
  • Knows how the business priorities map to the team, understands the impacts of the team’s work, and directs discussion & influences decisions accordingly
  • Provides assistance for remediating specific challenges in order to enhance team performance. Coaches team members on process, tools and work/reporting expectations
  • Lead Product and Program operations for the R+D organization - setting metrics that provide visibility into our portfolios while giving authority to the teams to make decisions that best align with operational excellence best practices

Valuable experiences and skills you’ll bring to Puppet

  • 10+ years of Program Manager experience within an agile / lean environment
  • 5+ years of managing Program Management teams
  • Experience partnering closely with Product Management, Engineering, User Experience and with User Experience best practices
  • Experience managing programs that span large and cross-engineering teams
  • Demonstrated success delivering programmatic efficiency and results
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, negotiation and organizational skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills that drive executional impact at scale
  • Working knowledge of agile software delivery with an understanding of Enterprise IT, DevOps or relevant tools
  • Understanding of enterprise software technologies
  • Certified Scrum Master

Bonus, but not required (shout about it in your application if you have experience):

  • Experience with Puppet or related solutions in the DevOps space is strongly desired. Knowledge of Enterprise IT, DevOps and relevant tools are a strong plus
  • Background working in our ecosystem - from platform technologies to DevOps is a plus
  • Experience with Open Source
  • Familiarity with Jira and Github delivery management
