Principal Technical Program Manager

at Puppet, Inc. Remote North America

Hi, I’m Pintu Sethi, Sr. Director of Strategy and Transformation at Puppet,

I’m looking for a Principal Technical Program Manager to be a key part of the Strategy and Transformational organization and help us deliver a great suite of automation products to enterprise customers. In this role, you will be responsible for managing cross-functional programs through their technical and business lifecycle. We’re working through complex challenges and ushering in a new era of pervasive automation—and you’ll be instrumental in coordinating and collaborating on the next phase of Puppet products.

At Puppet, a Senior Principal Technical Program Manager typically applies product development, scaled Agile, and advanced DevOps practices to manage projects, releases, lifecycles, and strategies for multiple products in the context of a portfolio, with autonomy and complete latitude for independent judgment. Our team works across all levels of Puppet and our customer’s organizations; engaging with executive stakeholders and with highly technical developers and practitioners. You’ll do your best work at Puppet with incredibly talented and passionate people from all walks of life!

Meaningful work you’ll contribute

  • Collaborates with business leaders to drive strategic product planning and roadmapping initiatives
  • Acts as a champion for Agile and Lean principles across the organization
  • Employs effective change management practices to roll out cross-departmental processes
  • Engages with the PM team to derive efficient best practices and evolve our processes at Puppet; effectively leads the team through developing and delivering incremental business value based on these processes
  • Develops and implements efficient plans to accomplish team goals, working with other teams in case of dependencies or cross-team feature development
  • Knows how the business priorities map to the team, understands the impacts of the team’s work, and directs discussion & influences decisions accordingly
  • Provides assistance for remediating specific challenges in order to enhance team performance. Coaches team members on process, tools and work/reporting expectations

You are…

  • The customer’s champion. We serve our customers by managing their expectations and delivering what we promise
  • An entrepreneurial-minded spirit—you enjoy the challenge of expanding new territory and have a knack for building land-and-expand strategy
  • A team player—you understand program management is a challenge best tackled as a team effort. You effectively partner with your engineering, PM, UX/UI, Sales, and Marketing counterparts effectively utilizing their expertise to help get to the finish line for large programs/initiatives at Puppet
  • A skilled collaborator with a knack for identifying the right solutions that best address customers’ and Puppet’s needs and articulating the value propositions. You are comfortable leading with influence, not authority - a great program manager rallies a team behind solving the customer's problem, not dictating what they do
  • Scrappy and self-directed. You are skilled at autonomously driving programs in a startup environment with minimal guidance and limited resources while having a ton of freedom and creativity to continue moving forward. You roll up your sleeves and drive execution and results

Valuable experiences and skills you’ll bring to Puppet

  • 8+ years of Program Manager experience within an agile / lean environment
  • Experience partnering closely with Product Management, Engineering, User Experience and with User Experience best practices
  • Working knowledge of agile software delivery with an understanding of Enterprise IT, DevOps or relevant tools
  • Understanding of enterprise software technologies
  • Certified Scrum Master

Bonus, but not required (shout about it in your application if you have experience):

  • Experience with Puppet or related solutions in the DevOps space is strongly desired. Knowledge of Enterprise IT, DevOps and relevant tools are a strong plus
  • Background working in our ecosystem - from platform technologies to DevOps is a plus
  • Experience with Open Source
  • Familiarity with Jira and Github delivery management
  • Experience with security tools, metrics, and change culture
  • Experience with cloud transformation, cloud management and virtualization

We are hiring at various experience levels and we’re particularly interested in having a diverse team with a broad set of skills and viewpoints. If this seems like your dream job, but you’re not sure if you qualify, apply anyway!
