VP of Engineering

at Puppet, Inc. Remote US

Hi, I’m Abby, CTO, at Puppet.

I’m looking for a VP of Engineering to grow a high-performing and engaged development team. As a transformational people leader, you are passionate about helping engineers develop technical strength and efficiency, and build highly collaborative and growing teams. If you’re eager to lead an organization of talented and engaged engineers working on hard problems that directly change the shape of software used on millions of systems every day, then this is the job for you! You’ll guide a diverse set of engineers collaborating across multiple teams—working on a multitude of products that help us meet the ever-changing needs of our expanding customer base.

You’ll partner with a variety of teams and groups within Puppet—such as the Senior Leadership Team, Product Management, Marketing, Support, and Sales to help ensure that the engineering team is focused and aligned in the right strategic direction. Clear vision, fast feedback loops, and engaged and collaborative teams are your mantra.

Meaningful work you’ll contribute:

  • Help set a technology strategy and chart a course for how best to execute on that strategy. Our products are the backbone upon which our customers build their infrastructure and deploy their critical applications, and you’ll help make sure they continue to delight users in all the ways typical enterprise software doesn’t!
  • Guide, nurture, and develop an organization of talented and engaged engineers who will lead Puppet into its next phase of growth.
  • Drive a high-performance culture through manager enablement and accountability

You are:

  • A hands on leader with a knack for identifying the right cultural solutions that drive a high performing engineering team. You are eager to impact the business.
  • A leader who values engagement over assignment and knows the importance of organizational retrospectives.
  • Able to proactively sense looming process or personnel problems early enough so we can react appropriately.
  • Not afraid to make tough decisions, and are able to effectively prioritize the most important projects that will return the greatest impact for our customers.
  • A clear communicator, able to articulate both momentum on initiatives as well as key risks and challenges.
  • The customer’s champion. We serve our customers by managing their expectations and delivering what we promise.

Valuable experiences and skills you’ll bring to Puppet:

  • You’ve successfully led a sizable team (150+) of software engineers and have ~10+ years experience managing engineering teams.
  • You have a history of building high performing teams working on multiple projects across different technology stacks.
  • You have effectively built diverse teams, ensuring a wide variety of perspectives are heard.
  • You’re an effective leader and you understand how to make an existing team work better as a group—keeping the team effective and functional as we add new people of varying backgrounds and experience.
  • You have familiarity with front-end and cloud/cloud native development methodologies and tooling.
  • Track record of shipping high-quality software on time using agile and lean principles.
  • You have expertise applying different processes to best enable your teams to achieve success.
  • You’re able to successfully navigate change and coach employees through transition.
