Principal Content Marketing Strategist

Hi, I’m Devin Davis, VP of Corporate Marketing and Communications at Puppet. My team includes communications, content web, brand, and customer marketing. 

I’m looking for a Principal Marketing Content Strategist to own content for us. Content is a big word, but for Puppet, this means developing and managing an editorial calendar by topic, audience, type and channel. And it means serving as the defacto editor-in-chief for voice, tone and style for all outgoing communications - all with an eye toward account-based strategies and tactics.   

As an expert in how technical and business audiences procure and consume content of all types,  you will work across the entire organization and community to build the best content for the brand - with the specific intent of enabling sales, supporting marketing, and empowering buyers. You’ll also help maintain the health of  our digital presence by ensuring all content is up to date, in support of company objectives, and contain no errors or “dead ends” for the personas they serve: users, buyers and executives.

What you’ll be doing: 

  • Create and maintain a content strategy, identifying the proper types and channels and repackaging and re-using of existing and planned content. 
  • Develop and manage an editorial calendar by topic, audience, type and channel (including but not limited to: blog, podcast, video, demand gen and social channels, executive comms calendar). 
  • Source content from SMEs in company, ecosystem for an edcal-by-persona structure. 
  • Create and manage “top of funnel” and demand gen assets from core messaging and assets. 
  • Collaborate with the sales team to identify and curate content for personalized sales response including email flows and other personalized communications.
  • Manage and grow a web of content freelancers to meet team and department OKRs.
  • Review all content (web, email, blogs, PR/AR, etc.) for consistency.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Strong understanding of digital content and channels: web, paid media, social media, demand gen, exec bylines and contributed content. Strong writing, editing, and proofing skills. 
  • An understanding of basic on-prem server and cloud technologies. 
  • An understanding of how to manage contractor and agency relationships.
  • An ability to work and communicate across departments. 
  • Experience working with leadership teams on why quality content matters and how it affects the business.
  • Communications, Engineering, or Developer-related education, 
  • 6-9 years of technology or agency experience in a digital content-related role.
