Senior Director of Product Management

at Puppet, Inc. US Remote

Hi, I’m Abby Kearns, CTO and Head of Product at Puppet,

I’m looking for a Senior Director of Product Management to join our team to help craft the future of Puppet by driving the product vision and strategy for our quickly evolving product portfolio. We are looking for someone who, like us, cares deeply about understanding our customers’ needs and takes pride in building awesome products. We’re working through complex challenges as we usher in a new era of pervasive automation—and you’ll be instrumental in defining the next phase of Puppet.

At Puppet, product management plays a central role in driving product development by working in close collaboration with our engineering and go-to-market teams. Our team works across all levels of the organization; engaging with executive stakeholders, directly with customers across the globe, interacting heavily with our user experience team, and deeply with our agile teams. You’ll do your best work at Puppet with incredibly talented teams!

Sound like the next step in your career? Read on.

As a Senior Director of Product Management at Puppet, you will:

  • Guide, nurture, and develop an extraordinary team of product managers, who will lead Puppet into its next phase of growth.
  • Represent the customer by understanding their needs and being their champion. With a constant pulse on the market, customers, competitors, and technology trends, you are uniquely positioned to discover and develop market leading software offerings.
  • Participate in educating the larger market on who Puppet is and where are going with our product portfolio, including press and analyst briefings.
  • Ensure the voice of the customer is present as we continuously evaluate our roadmap.
  • You will support, mentor, and collaborate with Product Managers, and help us collectively tell a compelling story of who we are and where we are going.
  • Maintain an understanding of the larger market that our products exist within, ensuring roadmaps, pricing, and position are well-positioned to be successful.

You will be partnering closely with…

  • Me, to iterate and execute on the long-term direction and strategy for Puppet across our evolving portfolio of products.
  • Other Senior Directors of Product Management who are passionate about both moving quickly and being customer-centric.
  • Our talented and growing Go to Market team, including our Marketing, Customer Success, and Sales teams.
  • User Experience team to shape the customer experience across our entire product portfolio, as well as debate the art of the possible with our products and how we best support our customer’s journey.
  • An industry-leading engineering team to assess backlogs and build roadmaps.
  • An 40,000+ strong global customer base that continues to use and power the future of our company.

Who are you?

  • You have open ears - always listening to customers. You are empathetic and will actively put yourself in other’s shoes in order to successfully represent the interest of others while balancing competing interests.
  • You are scrappy and self-directed. You are skilled at autonomously driving projects in a startup environment with minimal guidance and limited resources while having a ton of freedom and creativity to continue moving forward. You roll up your sleeves and drive execution and results.
  • You value outcomes over effort—and drive for clarity on what we want to achieve and orient our effort toward achieving those outcomes. You know effort is not valuable for its own sake.
  • You think big, bring data, and act decisively. You are audacious and propose bold ways to solve today’s customer problems, as well as tomorrow’s. When thinking big, you consider the larger context. Even when you don’t have complete information, you know decisions must be made.
  • You amplify the team’s voice. We’re stronger as a team. Supporting and sharing information freely with your teams comes naturally. You continuously ask yourself, “how can I support my team and partner closely with other teams to drive value into Puppet”?

What valuable experience and skills will you bring to the table?

  • You have ~10+ years of product management experience in a technology company—preferably enterprise B2B.
  • You’ve successfully led a team of product managers and have ~5+ years experience managing product management teams.
  • You have specific systems and infrastructure management domain experience in large and/or small startup companies.
  • Excellent listening, oral and written communication/presentation skills with strong ability to influence people at all levels and in various functions.

Bonus, but not required (shout about it in your application if you have experience)

  • Puppet experience
  • You bring a point-of-view on the evolution of the software development process, DevOps and infrastructure automation.

We are hiring at various experience levels and we’re particularly interested in having a diverse team with a broad set of skills and viewpoints. If this seems like your dream job, but you’re not sure if you qualify, apply anyway!
