Associate Sales Engineer

Hi, I’m David Alexander, Sales Engineering Manager for APAC at Puppet, 

I am hiring for an Associate Sales Engineer (SE) to join our Customer Success team. I am seeking someone who can empathize with customer needs, and understands why automation can help customers become more efficient, successful and effective.

In this role, you will be a technical voice in our sales process helping customers understand the value of automation and how Puppet products can achieve this. You will be taught to demonstrate Puppet products, and learn how to provide the technical expertise for Proof of Concepts and presentations. You’ll partner with the customer to solve their problems, helping to demonstrate the value of Puppet products with the Sales team. You will provide product feedback based on your interaction with customers to Engineering and Product. Your work will ensure the customer is successful as they interact with Puppet products and services. 

We are looking for bright, technically-minded postgraduates (university and TAFE applicants welcome) who are looking to start or further their technical career with the leader in the DevOps and IT automation space.  Puppet will provide a structured mentoring program and a structured training program to fast track successful candidates. Previous industry experience is not required nor specifically preferred, however, this role would also suit someone with 1-2 years’ technical experience in the IT industry following the attainment of their qualification.

As part of our APAC Customer Success practice, the SE participates primarily in pre-sales activities through engagement with our customers, and with partners within the region. You will help our customers to succeed by helping them to transform their IT automation and business.

 

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Work with account teams to help position solutions, and provide advice on architecture/design and drive opportunities for expansion and adoption of Puppet Technology
  • Learn to deliver pre-sales workshops and understand customer requirements, translate to solutions and communicate to clients, helping them to roadmap new DevOps/Automation initiatives
  • Write Statements of Work and provide SOW validation during the sales cycle
  • Research and Skills Development
    • Acquire and maintain expert knowledge of Puppet Services Portfolio and products
    • Acquire and maintain current knowledge via internal webinars, case study, training, Wiki and all other resources
    • Perform research into technology partner or other vendor solutions in the context of client requirements for integration
    • Collaborate with Puppet Product Engineer programs, providing points of view and documentation as needed

 

Required Experience

  • Tertiary qualification (undergraduate/postgraduate university, or TAFE diploma level or higher) with a technical, scientific, or mathematical degree preferred
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong willingness to learn new concepts and ability to think laterally to address customer issues   
  • Ability to learn technology quickly through instruction and self-training
  • Ability to travel to customer locations as required (approximately 20% travel, with travel consisting of 90% NSW, 10% interstate/international)
  • Ideally, some understanding of/exposure to some of the key technologies relevant to the Puppet solutions including:
    • Linux systems administration, including automation techniques
    • Windows systems administration, including PowerShell or other automation techniques
    • Programming skills (Java, C#, Python, Perl, Ruby, etc.)
    • Experience with/appreciation of some of the following technologies
      • git-based version control
      • Public and Private Clouds (AWS, Azure, Openstack, VMware)
      • Continuous Integration (Jenkins, Bamboo, or others)
