A big part of what makes Puppet so great is the community of contributors. If you are already contributing to Puppet, a thousand thanks to you! If you aren't contributing yet, welcome! Check out the different types of contributor events awaiting your participation. We think you'll enjoy these events as much as the rest of the community does.

Weekly Puppet triage

The team of developers who work on Puppet, Facter and Hiera hold weekly public Google+ Hangouts to go over the current state of contributions to these code bases. Anyone interested in helping out is invited to join and help us decide what needs to be done to accept the contributions. The Hangouts generally take place every other Tuesday at 10 AM Pacific Time and we post the link in the puppet-dev mailing list and #puppet-dev on IRC (Freenode) shortly before each Hangout starts. After the triage, we will post notes (including a recording) to the voxpupuli/community-triage repository. A collection of all the core triage notes can be found here.

Weekly modules triage

Each week, the modules team runs through the pull request backlog for Puppet Forge modules, with the intent to merge or comment on each of them. Please join us if you have an interest in helping shape Puppet Forge modules, or have a pull request you'd like the team to consider. The triage takes place via Google Hangout every Thursday around 10 AM Pacific, and the link is posted in #puppet-dev on IRC (Freenode).

Puppet Contributor Summits

Puppet Contributor Summits are events for both new and experienced contributors to Puppet, including:

  • People who submit pull requests and contribute code to Puppet projects.
  • Community members working on Puppet-related projects.
  • Contributors to Puppet modules.
  • Key community members who answer a lot of questions about using Puppet.
  • Long-time Puppet users who are interested in doing more.

We hold Puppet Contributor Summits twice a year; one in the United States during the week of PuppetConf, and another in Europe around FOSDEM.

Interested in contributing to Puppet? Want to come hang out with fun people and do geeky things all day? Then join us at #puppethack, a collaborative, relaxed online hack day for the Puppet community.

#puppethack gives Puppet community members an opportunity to finally tackle that one interesting or fun problem that you just never seem to get to — and get help! The community gathers in the #puppethack channel in the Puppet Community Slack, getting to know each other and collaborating on pull requests for modules and other Puppet code.

Who is #puppethack for?

If you're a Puppet user, contributor, developer, module author, docs writer, or you contribute in any other way to the Puppet community, #puppethack is for you. We also welcome folks who are interested in learning how they can start contributing!

Next #puppethack

Will be on December 13, 2016! Register here
