We’re happy to share that Forrester recently named Puppet as a leader in The Forrester Wave™: Configuration Management Software For Infrastructure Automation, Q4 2018, extending Puppet’s position as a leader from last year.

Puppet earned the highest scores of all vendors evaluated in the current offering category, as well as the strategy category. Puppet also earned the highest possible scores in the deployment, monitoring and governance capabilities, community support, market approach, consulting, training and support, and innovation in pricing criteria.

In today’s software-driven world, every organization is transforming to deliver better software faster in order to meet rising customer expectations. As DevOps practices hit mainstream, organizations are recognizing the need to eliminate manual intervention from their software delivery processes, and standardize their processes for getting software in the hands of customers. That’s where automation comes in. This Forrester report helps IT decision makers evaluate solutions that help address this challenge and we’re thrilled to be included in this research and named a leader in the space.

In our view, Forrester’s report shows the importance of configuration management for organizations seeking to adopt DevOps practices and deliver better software faster. As an influential voice in guiding IT decisions, we’re excited that Forrester recognized Puppet as a leader in this growing space. Puppet strives to continuously be the standard way that organizations deliver and operate software; the findings from this report further reinforce that.

How we got here and where we’re headed

At Puppet, we pioneered the idea of infrastructure as code 13 years ago, an approach that has now become the de facto standard way that organizations of all shapes and sizes provision, configure and manage cloud and on-prem infrastructure. During the past year, we’ve introduced new imperative and task-oriented ways of automating to augment our model-driven, declarative approach, as well as more remote management and agentless capabilities to augment our agent-based approach.

We’ve also heard that knowing what you have is a critical first step to knowing where to start automating, and launched Puppet Discovery to make it easy for teams to get a single view into the infrastructure, services and software packages running across their cloud, container and on-premises environments. And earlier this year, we launched Continuous Delivery for Puppet Enterprise to make it easy for our customers to test, promote and deploy infrastructure code changes more confidently as part of a CI/CD workflow.

Puppet is positioned as a leader based on a 27-criterion evaluation. As Forrester notes:

“Puppet is strong on reliability as well as monitoring and governance. Puppet Enterprise augments the open source Puppet offering with a web-based UI that provides visibility into configurations, dependencies, and events. Role-based permissions let compliance professionals easily access reports and event trails, while enhanced APIs provide orchestration capabilities and integration with common enterprise systems. Puppet Enterprise’s strengths include its deployment options, monitoring and governance, and community support. Customers cited their relationships with Puppet as well as the flexibility and reliability of the tool as strengths.”

Thank you

We are honored to receive these recognitions, and owe it to our awesome customers who continuously motivate us to innovate, improve, and deliver the best automation platform.
