Puppet Enterprise 3.8 is here! The release includes powerful new provisioning capabilities for Docker containers, AWS infrastructure and bare-metal environments. In addition, we’ve introduced Puppet Code Manager, a new app for Puppet Enterprise to accelerate deployment of infrastructure changes in a more programmatic and testable fashion.

Automate Provisioning with Next-Generation Puppet Node Manager

Puppet Enterprise 3.8 introduces major enhancements to the Puppet Node Manager app first introduced with version 3.7. New capabilities help significantly accelerate provisioning time across heterogeneous environments and get you to Day 2 operations faster.

A new Puppet Supported module for Docker helps you easily launch and manage Docker containers within your Puppet-managed infrastructure. These new capabilities help avoid configuration issues with the Docker daemon running containers, so teams can spend less time troubleshooting configuration issues, and more time helping to develop and deploy great applications.

Cloud environments

Our new Amazon Web Services module makes it easy to provision, configure and manage AWS resources, including EC2, Elastic Load Balancing, Auto Scaling, Virtual Private Cloud, Security Groups and Route53. With a shared language and a simple interface to common AWS resources, the AWS module enables you to apply practices such as code review and continuous integration to the composition of machines and networks in AWS.

Bare metal

Razor, Puppet Labs’ bare-metal provisioning capability, moves with the 3.8 release from tech preview to a fully supported solution for provisioning bare-metal servers. Razor automatically discovers bare-metal hardware and dynamically installs and configures Windows, Linux and VMware ESXi operating systems and hypervisors, based on policies you’ve defined.

Manage Infrastructure as Code with Puppet Code Manager

Puppet Code Manager is a new Puppet App designed to help you more efficiently manage the code that defines your infrastructure. The first capabilities we are releasing are based on the popular r10k technology, which improves reliability of your infrastructure as code by providing a consistent way to change, review, test and promote the Puppet code you use to define your infrastructure, as it moves from development and test through to production environments.

New Upgrade Tools

Currently using a version of Puppet Enterprise prior to 3.7? The new release includes tools that make it easier to take advantage of new node classification capabilities first introduced in Puppet Enterprise 3.7.

The new Puppet catalog preview tool helps you prepare for significant upcoming enhancements to the Puppet language before they are available in the next release.
